A voice recording claiming to be from Dominion Energy called to say we were late on our payment and power would be shut off that day. We were told to press a number to speak with customer service or to call 800-974-7405 to arrange payment. We checked our records internally and found we were up-to-date on all payments, so we called Dominion Energy’s number listed on our bill, which was different than the one given us. We learned that this is a common scam and that service disconnection has been discontinued during COVID.

Someone purporting to represent Dominion Energy left a message with my nephew stating that the power was going to be shut off at a property I own (he previously lived there.). They left a case number and 1-800 number. I called and the answer sounded very much like Dominion Energy. An "agent" answered giving his "agent number" and name. He explained that the electric box at the property was dangerous and needed immediate replacement and that multiple notices had been sent to the house and now the power would be shut off in one hour. In order to get the power back on, I was advised to go to purchase a "money pack" card, load it with $495.00 and call back with the "PIN" number on the back. Also advised there would be a fee of $5.95 that would be refunded on my next bill. I talked to my property manager who advised this is a scam. They called back within the hour to see if I was making progress and when I said I thought it was a scam, they immediately hung up.

He asked me to download the Zelle app, and was going to "walk me through" how to use it to transfer funds to him. He provided [email protected] as his user name for the account. I told him I would take care of it later. He pressed me to complete the transaction so he could give me a confirmation number. When I told him I needed some time to get organized, he asked when he could call me back to provide a confirmation number.

I received a VM today at 1:07 pm est to call Dominion Energy Virginia back at 757 516-4760 due to our services being disconnected today (in 30 mins). I must admit, I was confused because we weren’t scheduled to be disconnected. I called and the male would not give me name or a supervisor and exclaimed I was being RUDE and he was trying to help me. ALL of a sudden, I get a text message telling me my account was scheduled for disconnections and that I needed to make a $200 payment or the technician will be "turning off" my services. They would ONLY take cash and NO information over the phone. I needed to pay it right now. When I questioned how is it possible to STOP the technician from disconnecting US while on this call. The male insisted I was not "listening" and to "stop being rude". He even questioned was I "mentally ok and why I wasn’t understanding him". Needless to say, after several hang up calls on their end, and MAKE BELIEVE MANAGER with the same voice, a female who did answer after I called him back the 2nd time, more threats, more threatening text messages. I said enough and asked him to hold while I contacted my husband via 3 way. All the while I was looking up my account on my laptop (NO DISCONNECTION FOR TODAY). Verifying the amount the male quoted me for my balance was a lie. I finally got a hold of my husband on 3way at work. The male was RUDE and hung up on US when my husband questioned him as well. They had my husband convinced all the while I’m on the phone texting him that its a SCAM, go back to work, these people are lying, DO NOT PAY THEM. I did speak with DOMINION ENERGY and they told me it was indeed a scam and to file a police report. You have no idea the urgency in GETTING MY HUSBAND to NOT pay them a dime. I was on my cell, the house phone and my laptop trying to reach ANYONE at the REAL Dominion Energy. BEWARE of the 866 # as well. When they call you, it looks just like the REAL 866 DOM-HELP. The SCAMMERS USED the fake number of 866-766-3637 (FAKE NUMBER).

Some guy claiming to be with Dominion Energy called and left a voicemail that my power was scheduled to be cut off today. I called the number back to say my bill was paid and that there must be some mistake, which he said he didn’t show that it was paid and wanted me to pay $294 within the next hour to prevent it from being disconnected. Then he tried to get $194 from me. Once he realized he wasn’t getting any money from me, he hung up. I called Dominion Energy and reported the phone number to them. I called the number back. He answered saying his name was Michael, so I told him that I reported him and he hung up again. I called him back a few hours later and asked if he was still scamming people. He bragged that he had someone on the line that he was about to scam for $2,000 and hung up. I really want this jerk punished!

An un-heard voicemail message icon appeared on my cell phone at about 9:30 am, 3/7/20. There were no missed callls or calls what so ever on my cell phone call history that morning. Upon listening to the voice mail, i was told Dominion was going to disconnect my service for "non-payment history". There was no mention of my name or my account number in the voicemail message. The voicemail message left a callback number 757 241 6655 to make payment and avoid disconnection. I suspected this to be a scam and didn’t call the number. I logged onto my Dominion account online and verified the account was not pass due. I’m not sure how a message can appear directly into a cell phones voicemail with firtst trying to call the cell phone, but this was a very strange event.

Then I confronted him and asked who he really was because he’s called with two different company names on different coasts with different phone numbers. He hung up.

A male came to my home without i.d., utility vehicle or uniform. He was wearing a lime green shirt, jeans and tennis shoes. He held something that looked like a pressure washer and had a plastic spray bottle with a pink liquid in it. He said he had to check for a gas leak. He stated he didn’t have i.d. because he had only been with the company for 2 months. I called Dominion energy and they had no record of any order for someone to come out. He tried to provide me with the local number to call instead, yet Dominion stated there was no local number and all employees or contractors have badges. He just left. Appeared to be a Hispanic male between 27 and 30 and height of 5’5 to 5’7. Because he didn’t get an opportunity to get to my meter I don’t know what he was planning to do. Once Dominion was on the phone he said he would just leave and have someone else check for the leak. It was disturbing. The police were notified and were going to drive around the area.

You could click on "View My Bill", which I did not. Then it stated "It is our pleasure to serve your energy needs and to provide you with the convenience of managing your account(s) online. Thank you, Dominion Energy North Carolina Customer Service". There was no phone number, email address or mailing address given.

I pressed # to reach someone about the outage. The phone rang and a gentleman picked up saying "Dominion Energy this is Jason?". I told him about the automated message. He asked me for our phone number and I gave it to him. He then asked if we were located at (gave address of our old business location). I told him that was our old location and he then hung up on me.
The number on caller ID showed as Cumberland, VA and was 804-492 number. I checked Dominion’s outage map and they have no projects in our zip code as a planned outage/disconnection. I’m sure this was a scam.

This person claimed that an unpaid bill would result in the electric service being disconnected an hour before noon. (The call came in at 11:45am) When we called the number business recorded said we had reached BC Hydro. The person who answered said he was with Dominion Energy. He would not tell me the account that was in default or give me an account number. He said that the power had already been disconnected (which was not the case as I was there). I told him that he was not conducting business in a proper manner and he advised me to contact the utility directly and hung up. Total scam. I pay on line and have a record of all payments so I was able to also quickly verify that none of the eight accounts I have was past due.
