Type of a scam Credit Cards
On 10/23 I called the number on the back of my credit card to pay my bill. Then an automated voice said "press one if anyone in your house is 50 or older". Thinking this was through the credit card company I pressed 1. Then a young males voice asked me if I wanted to pay a small fee for first class shipping of a information packet and for paying the fee and examining the information they would send a $100 gift card. I was very skeptical and asked a multitude of questions such as "what specifically was this program," "how does it work," "why would they offer this discount" and lastly "how do I know it’s not a scam." (Mind you I am someone who is well versed in scams knows to never click on those links offering varying amounts of money, or the phone calls that ask for your social security number, and knew not to cash a fake check from a "potential employer" after sending in my resume. This being said every single one of my questions was anwered with a very intelligent, understanding, kind, and thorough response. When making a remark about my skepticism I was told something along the lines of, "I assure you m’am that we only take the one tine fee of $1.95 for shipping and that taking any larger sum of money would be damanging to the crediblity of our business and therefore counter productive." This man also spoke fluent english that was clearly his first language. Since I was convinced and also did not know that calls could be intersected in such a way, I agreed. I thought they must have been affiliated with the original company I called. I gave him all the usual credit card information and my contact information. He said the package is being shipped first class and that I should recieve it no later than Thursday. He said you can call these two numbers if you have any issues and to cancel the subscriptions. He then thanked me for my time and hang up. I thought at most this was a semi-scam like when you get a free trial offer but have to put in your card info and get charged if you don’t cancel and that is how they make their money because many people forget. After further research and evaluation I believe this to not be the case. I unfortunately, fell for this and would like to prevent anyone else from making this same mistake. I am canceling my card on 10/26 and hoping that will handle this situation, but I wish I could have avoided it all together. Best of luck.
