Type of a scam Phishing
Received a call, caller ID said it was Directv. The caller knew my first name. He said since I was a preferred customer, they were going to lower my bill to $59.95 for 24 months if I prepaid for 6 months, $360. After that, my bill will drop. The promotion was in conjunction with EBay and was only valid until midnight tonight. He would transfer my call to a supervisor who would give me the promo code and answer all my questions. I asked if he had the promo details in writing and he said no, the supervisor would give me all the details and how to prepay upfront. While on the phone, I googled this and verified it was a scam. I hung up and they called back 2 more times but I didn’t answer. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is! What bothers me the most is how did they get my phone number, knew my name and that I have Directv!
