Dept of Healthcare Human Services Fraud

Shawn – Jun 11, 2020

Victim Location 74441

Total money lost $650

Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes

She was offered a grant from the Dept of Healthcare Human Services. A picture of a white haired man "Agent Patton Austin" government organization appeared. After she gave them her name, address & ph#, gender & occupation, he told her the grant was for $150,000. Then he sent more messages with info (batch#, winning amt, email, etc.) that she was to give the FedEx fellow. At this point she believed him. Then he sent a picture of a lockbox and she thought it was going to be in cash rather than a check. He said after she made a payment of $650, the FedEx guy would bring the lockbox. At this point she stopped "messaging" and she called her friend (whom the message appeared to be from in the beginning) and they have continued to text but she isn’t responding. She had not sent her any messages and she realized this was a scam.
