Type of a scam Tech Support
This scammer "never got to first base," so to speak, as I "smelled a rat" right away! Had several calls from the given phone# (and maybe other numbers used by the same outfit), claiming to be from the Dell Computer Network Security Department, informing me that my computer was fine but they’d detected a problem with my network security and offered to help. (I have not had a Dell computer for a very long time, by the way.) When I let them know I was intending to hang up the female caller urged me to listen to what she had to say, professing to be aware of a serious problem that I had on my computer–which I was confident I did NOT have. I interrupted her attempted pitch by hanging up promptly. I’ve had several calls to date from the same outfit; though I’ve sternly asked them not to call again they called again this evening (10/29/2018) and may continue to call periodically. When searching the internet for the phone number I’ve given above, others have identified those using this number to be DEFINITELY SCAMMERS.
Though I lost NO money in this scam, I’m sure money (and likely more than money) would have been lost if I’d "taken the bait."
