Type of a scam Family/Friend Emergency
A phone call took place between someone pretending to be my son and my in-laws. Supposedly, my son called from NY (where he shouldn’t be) saying that he got arrested for a DUI and has a broken nose and a busted lip and needs bail money. He claimed that he didn’t wish to speak to me or his father; he wanted to be able to tell us in person. He only had 5 minutes to talk and said that someone from the DA’s office would be calling them, to make arrangements for bail. In 5 minutes, a man called, claiming to be the DA and based on my son’s good behavior, the court was going to knock his bail down from $5000 to $1700. My mother-in-law started to ask questions – his name and how do you spell it, at that point the man hung up. My son is safe and sound, where he is supposed to be.
