I received a call the last week of May on a work phone. The caller had a thick accent, maybe Spanish? She state the Federal Government had $9000 grant they wanted to dispurse to me because I met certain criteria. I advised I was not interested and the call disconnected abruptly. Now I’m receiving at least one call a day where the caller just wants to verify my name. Caught off guard today, a caller said "Are you ____ _____?" I said "Yes. Can I help you?" Almost as soon as I said "yes" he discontinued the call. What should I do at this point to protect myself? I feel like the caller just wanted my voice saying "Yes" and that is what he accomplished.
