Type of a scam Tech Support

Was internet browsing when dozens of porn screens popped up and froze machine web browsing. A loud male voice instructed me call the number immediately because we had been infected by a "trojan horse" virus. Called, and "Nathan" represented himself as a representative of Apple Care, and instructed he allow him remote access to install "cleaning software" so that Apple would not be compromised. He had access for HOURS, installed who-knows-what, and stole who-knows-what before I learned of a family member’s mistake and immediately "pulled the plug", and got trusted professional assistance for restoration of a clean system. Thank goodness no money exchanged hands with this scam, despite threats of legal action, a promise of a return visit of the "Interpol-listed scammer" (picture provided at the time, evidently) and "being banned from ability to ever purchase an Apple product again." Before their hasty exit as I recognized what was going on, browsing history was already deleted, trash emptied, most icons for apps disappeared. One remained: CClean. No image available of icon at time of this posting. The services they were supposedly offered included a demonstration of "improved performance and speed" due to their efforts.
