Type of a scam Government Grant

I got a message from a "supposed" friend on Facebook. I immediately checked with that friend because the message seemed suspicious. This Facebook account was a duplicate and not legitimate. The person using the Facebook profile told me that she’d "saw your name on there winner’s list when the ups came to deliver my winning money, I think the name was picked at random from Facebook". In order to get more information, I acted interested. I was sent a link to another person on Facebook Messenger under the name "Timothy Rex Mark". He said I’d been chosen for a grant and the more I was able to pay for delivery, the more money I could get. I’ve included the breakdown below. At this point I asked for time to get the money together. Then I called both parties out on being a scam & was immediately blocked by both accounts.

Whoever this person is he/she has gone on messenger pretending to be two of my contacts. He says I have won a federal grant. He said he had won 50000.00 and he saw my name on the winners list. He gave me the number to text to get my money. I almost fell for it until I got the 2nd message from another friend with the same info. They claim it is a grant. You have to go to Walmart and buy 10 $100 amazon gift cards, scratch off the black part and send it to him. Big time scam

I got a message from an acquaintance on FB who was really excited about this government grant opportunity from this company. When I found out I would have to send money back to them I knew it was probably a scam. They told me to keep it a secret until I received the money.

This company hacked a friends Messenger Page and also has been texting me to let me know that I have been selected to receive a grant. But first they want you to send money for a delivery fee and case file fee and the check will be delivered by fed ex the next day. Being suspicious I ask my supposed to be friend on face book messenger to tell me something personal that she knows about me and they responded saying you don’t trust me and never answered the question. Later that day I contacted my friend and she told me that her page had been hacked and that they were contacting others friends and relatives.

  1. Like others I received a message on my messenger page from a supposed friend whom I hadn’t heard from in a while telling me that she had just got a check for 90,000$ overnight and that it was a government grant that didn’t have to be paid back. The message went on to try and convince me that this was legit that she had received the check overnight by fed x deposited in the bank and it was real and that this was an opportunity of a lifetime and didn’t want me to miss out on it so just contact him and tell him that she referred me. I said send me the contact info and I’ll do some research and see if this is real. I was given the fb info for an agent Gerard Edward looked it up he seems to have genuine documents on the site, instead of leaving a text I used the phone symbol to call, and no one answered. I then get a text asking was I ready to apply for the CFDA grant and where did I get his private #? I gave a name and told him who had referred me. He said he’d send a pre application to fill out my info asap so that he could secure my winning money. Just to give myself time to investigate I asked how soon he needed the info. He didn’t respond at first then he started texting and asking are you still there about 2 or 3 times I told him I wasn’t home at the moment and that I would get it to him as soon as I could. He then proceeded to text and say just write the info on a white sheet (which he spelled incorrect) of paper, snap a pic and send it to him. I obliged him so he thought and then he text me back saying I was accepted with a claiming # and a serial # and a list of different amounts and what the fee would be. I get a text at 3:10 am saying I needed to send him through cash app or gift cards an insurance and liability (was also spelled wrong) fee according the amount of grant I chose my question was “Why do I have to pay for free money and why wasn’t that part of the initial conversation?” by now I’m getting messenger from the so called friend saying oh yeah I had to pay 600$ in gift cards but, they gave it back in the check this person asked how much did you choose and just to humor them I said 50,000 they then offered to send 500 in gift cards on by behalf and I just repay them and send the balance which would have been 500 to the agent. By now I know whoever this is they’re communicating with each other I said no thanks you can cancel that application and both of them kept saying it can’t be cancelled it was already submitted. I told them I wasn’t going to participate. They both continued to text and messenger me, and I said I’m asking both of you to stop and if you don’t, I’m going to report this as harassment and that’s when they stopped communicating. So, yes, this the biggest scam ever.
