Type of a scam Credit Cards

Caller leaves message saying that they are with Citi and that you need to call a certain number -877-437-1985 to speak with an assistant. They then ask for your credit card number to "expedite" the call. I called Citi Cards and they confirmed that they do not call customers and especially do not ask for your credit card number over the phone. It sounds very official and legitimate, but it is a scam.

Total money lost $50

Type of a scam Credit Cards

I earned a $50 rebate on purchasing tires. The rebate was issued on a Citi debit card. When I went to activate the card, I discovered there was a short window for using the card, and that it had now "expired".

The company providing card services was not Citi, but a third party company called Young America used by Citi. Gift cards generally have a five year life. Debit cards expire and are reissued without losing the associated account funds.

The risk of losing the $50 rebate due to expiration was not advertised.

Beware of this fraud.
