Type of a scam Government Grant
The scammer contacted me on my cell phone and stated that I was selected to receive from the government free grant money that I would never have to pay back or file on my taxes. The amount to be received would be $7500. When asked how I was selected they informed me that there were 1500 people in my state selected who pay their taxes on time and have not been into any trouble in the last year. To receive the money they asked that I only spend the money responsibly. They gave me a confirmation code to receive the money and transferred me to another scammer who would answer any questions I had and to ask me how I wanted to receive the money. I advised the scammer that I prefer payment by check but for some reason the scammer tried to push for me to use Western Union (so I could have the money as soon as possible). Then the scammer proceeded to tell me that I needed to go to the nearest Family Dollar or Dollar General because I would have to complete the registration process and receive a registration card. The fee of $200 would need to be paid to activate the card and then I would go to the Western Union and get not only the $7500 but they will also reimburse me the $200 as well. That is when I hung up the phone.
