Type of a scam Charity
There was an individual stating they work for a charitable organization called *** *** *** ***, which supposedly sends care packages to Armed Forces personnel overseas. They are soliciting door-to-door and asking for donations via cash, check or credit card to fund their operations; however, they are not a legitimate organization. They do have a website, but the site contains no pertinent information as to the recipients or the founders of the organization, nor are there any references or any information on where they are based.
The representative engages in a high-pressure spiel, and plays with the emotions of the people they contact regarding loved ones who served in the military.
I placed a stop payment on the check I issued as soon as I realized what I had been duped into, so hopefully I will not incur a financial loss, but did lose peace of mind being preyed upon.
