Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
Several months ago I received a check that looked like it was from capital one, but was not. I spoke with Capital One and they confirmed that they did not send a check. I destroyed the check.
Today i received a letter made to look like it was from Capital One. The letter mentioned the check, and that I never cashed it. In the letter, they warn me that if they don’t hear from me within 30 days, that the check will be mailed to the state. It also states:
"CONTACT US WITHIN 30 DAYS TO KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT(S) OPEN"
I spoke with Capital One today and alerted them to the situation. They suggested I contact you.
