Type of a scam Online Purchase

This scammer pretended to be a breeder of French Bulldogs who had puppies available for a discounted price because his wife was pregnant and this was their last litter. My girlfriend was the initial person to contact them and was sending me info while I was at work. He said that if we wanted the puppy that we identified we needed to put a $600 deposit down through CashApp to secure the puppy so that we could drive to minnesota this weekend. I paid this amount and later inquired about their available accomodations for long distance customers which was referenced on their website. They stated that if we paid the remaining $400 for the dog and $155 for transportation fees, they would proceed with the process of booking the flight and that the puppy would be sent with a trusted individual. This morning, we recieved last minute information that an additional $950 would be required as a ‘refundable deposit" for a ‘climate controlled crate’. The breeder became unresponsive via phone or email after confirming that there would be these additional costs he didnt mention yesterday and the individual on the phone for the shipping company was insistent that if I did not pay immediately, the dog would not be sent of the flight and would be delayed further, the arrival time for which was dramatically pushed back already for understandable reason.
