The caller said I had an unpaid balance from a pay day loan company in 2013 for $1300. They said that letters and emails were sent to me regarding this, of which I never received. They could not provide Social Security info or any information that I would think a legitimate collector would have. The caller seemed irritated and became defensive when I did not provide Social Security info and bank account info for payment. I was told that this will go to court and I will be held responsible for the unpaid balance.

Gregory Martin is the name the foreign male gave when he called me from 407-530-0831. This [censored] didn’t know that he called a police officer. I asked what was this about he said he was from Brooks and Wiseman, and I have a pre-judgement against me. I laughed and asked when, where and how , he in turn said that he can’t give me validation but I had a payday loan from NetLoan Payday. Again, I laughed and advised him I am tracing this call to verify his location and if course he disconnected.

I tried to callback and the line was busy. DO NOT RELEASE OR VERIFY ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION. (Yes they had your public info…1st & last name and last 4 of your SSN)…This information CAN NOT be used to do anything unless you give them additional information. AGAIN DO NOT GIVE THESE SCAMMERS ANYTHING…TELL THEM YOU WILL HAVE THE POLICE LOCATE THEM.

Rebecca – May 04, 2020

Received text message from 888-548-7849 with a reference number. Called stated I have unpaid payday loan from 04/2012 which defaulted in 11/13. First of all I am a banker and I know you can’t collect a debt via text message and the statue of limitation had expired. I asked for proof of payday advance and was hung up on several times. Filed a complaint with the CFPB in CA. Since I have no actual paperwork from this collection agency they are unable to do anything. Consumers are on their own when it comes to fighting fraud.

Cameron – Apr 27, 2020

My story is the same. They have my info as well. Wanted payment asap. I said I’m not giving my banking info. He told me to go a get a pre paid visa. Wow Red Flag. I have not paid. From what I’m reading the story is the same. Text and all. I have 4 numbers… 833-215-7676…833-604-3341. This was eye opening. The next two numbers which are the numbers are the ones they call me from but they are in my area code and the man. Joshua, said he was in Tampa. Well that 1000 miles from here. 314-526′-2511… 314-526-2231. Not sure what to do about this. They have my info. It’s stressing me out!

I normally check to see if it’s a scam first, but they texted my husband with this text & I thought it might be valid since they had his cell phone number:

“This message is for (my name). Our office has made several attempts to contact you. Please call us back regarding QCZ22568 at 888-548-7849. Thank You”

I called the number, like an [censored], & a guy answered and told me I was on a recorded line. He said before he could tell me what this was about he needed to confirm my personal information – LOL. And I said before we continue I needed to know what this was about because I’m not giving my personal information to anyone. He persisted on trying to get me to confirm the last four digits of my Social Security number (Which he had!) and again I declined and said what is this about, even if it’s just general info. and he wouldn’t tell me anything. He got defensive & said “I can confirm where I sent the letters to & you can confirm the address”! I said again I’m not giving you any personal information until you give me something credible i.e. is this debt medical, credit, etc.? I have good credit and I don’t get collection notices. He finally said that it was for a “short term loan”… I guess that’s another way of saying “payday loan”.

At that point I told him I didn’t take out any payday loans and I was not willing to talk to him. I think he hung up before I did while being mad that I was “talking over him”.

My regret is that I confirmed my cell number and my husband’s cell number essentially by calling them back. So lesson learned people …if you don’t know this, don’t even bother to text or call them back. I thought I was doing the right thing by calling but I won’t give anyone my personal information to scammers unless I’m 100% sure. Thankfully I didn’t answer anything but he still knows my phone number :/

I received the following text message today:

“This message is for (name omitted). Our office has made several attempts to contact you. Please call us back regarding (reference #) at 877-579-2927. Thank you.

I’ll preface this with I ALWAYS knew this was bull[censored]. I have stellar credit, have multiple service that monitor my credit and provide fraud protection. I have no accounts in arrears and haven’t in over 7 over years, but I gave ’em a call anyways.

I call and simply tell them I got a text message saying to call this number. She was able to tell me what my name was and asked me to verify the last 4 digits of my social… which she provided (scary!). I immediately requested additional information and she refused without getting verification first. I told her I was calling bull[censored] and that I was certain this was a scam. She got mad, yelled at me, and the hung up the phone. Classy.

I call back.. another individual, male this time, answers and requests the reference #. A bit of back and forth in determining why he required the # when the first lady didn’t. I request additional information just as I had the first. He tells me he works for a collection agency named Brooks and Wiseman. When I tell him that I’ve Googled his company and Google tells me that it is a scam he says he can transfer me back to first person I talked to? Why? FFS.. Do people really fall for this crap?

I will say that I have had my fair share of collection/credit woes, but I never had a debt collector hang up for the phone on me. Legit debt collection is relentless and I can assure you their SoP will never include disconnecting for the consumer.

Gabriel – Apr 03, 2020

I am actually on the phone with them they after I informed them it was a scam they refused to give me there name employee numbers etc they sound Nigerian there new number is +18669398001 so after I called the loan company she informed me that they didn’t have any loan offices in the state nor did they at the time of the supposed day she then ran my information for me to clear me of the loan informed me it was a fraud and boom I enter there law office and low and behold this popped up I then called them back and let them no I was reporting them since my parents actually work in law enforcement then they just kept putting me on hold telling me they don’t have time yada yada yada yada I informed him how to so a proper collection and the rules and regulations as in if I ask you for your information you have to give it to me as well as your employee number they’re stupid

Regina – Apr 01, 2020

Same thing just happened to me and I decided to play their game and call them repeatedly and waste their time. Was hung up on multiple times and threatened with court, which I just laughed out loud at them and upset them more. Uses an old address with last four of social to try to sound official, but knows no other info. Waste these guys time so they can not scam the easily manipulated people of this world. Scam artists is what they are.

My son’s work cell received text stating” This message is for K*** S******. Our office has made several attempts to contact you. Please call us back regarding QCG6910. Thank You.” I called them back and Daniel Johnson answered stating I had a past due payday loan with Chase. 1st off…I dont have any payday loans or any connection with Chase account. He asked me for SSN and account information. When I refused, he threatened collections. I stated he can do that while I contact the local police department with his name, numbers and false information used to defraud me of funds. I asked him to give me his address, email information and direct line so I can verify he is legit and he hung up on me.

Larry – Mar 30, 2020

Got a text similar to others. I called the guy said I owed a cash debt through an online cash advance of $500. Open date was 12/13/2012 which i told him is false. I was in the hospital with my child getting her radiation therapy for her brain cancer and so i never got an online payday loan of 500. He got all mad saying it will be handled in court. I said well do what you need cause it isn’t me. He hung up I tried to call back and got sent to a recording.

Received text message stating this message is for "——–" Our office has made several attempts to contact you. Please call us back regarding QCG23103 at 844-842-9875. Thank you. I called the number back from a different phone number and was told the Business Name but they would not give me any additional information without first giving more of my personal information. Told them that i would be reporting this text message along with their phone numbers listed to my attorney. This is a scam as I have never received anything in the mail and I check my credit reports on a weekly basis for any changes and have seen nothing. If this really was a legal matter they would not be texting.

I received a call from these clowns today leaving a voicemail stating “we have received a complaint that involves your name and social security number and you need to call Brooks & Weismann immediately” I knew it was BS but I called back anyway. Some Middle Eastern guy answered and transferred me to “Alicia” another Middle Eastern. She asked me to verify my date of birth after she told me, I said “you tell me” she said I have to verify you are the correct person, I refused and she said I will note your “Case” as a refusal and I told her to go ahead and do that…She bid me to good day and hung up on me…TOTAL SCAMMERS…Beware

Total scam. The “agent” that answered was really pushy and tried to get tough with me. I explained that I would like the original documentation sent via mail to my current address (which he didn’t know). He got mad, hung up and when I called back another “agent” answered. I told him the skinny of the situation and he transferred me. When the original agent got back on the phone, he said “we’ll see you in court,” in a really angry voice lol. I just laughed out loud as he hung up.

I’m going to keep calling them back to see if I can get more information from them, play their game and mess with their heads.

Have fun with these scammers, waste their time so they can’t call other people.

My fiance received a text message stating that they had made several attempts to try and locate me , (using a former last name from 7 yrs ago) ..
How they got my fiance’s number is weird. And so my fiance forwarded the text to me and I called it and got some dude named Robert and he was working for Brooks and Whinesman? I asked him why he called my fiance, and why he referred to me by a last name I haven’t used in several yrs.? He just hung up on me. Oh well
Flipping scammers.

I was contacted via text message from a unknown number stating that someone had made numerous attempts to collect a debt and that I needed to contact them. The person listed on the text was my husbands ex-wife. I called the number back, from a different phone number, to be greeted by a person with a middle eastern accent saying the worker for BROOKS & WISEMAN and they were attempting to collect a debt but asked if the number I was calling from the same number that I received the text from, I said no. They hung up on me. LOL

I was contacted via text message from a unknown number with that someone had made numerous attempts to collect a debt and that I needed to contact them. I called the number back to be greeted by a person with a middle eastern accent saying the worker for BROOKS & WISEMAN and they were attempting to collect on a payday loan that I defaulted on. I knew he was a scammer from the get-go because the only information he had to get me to confirm my identity was the last 4 of my SSN and an address that I lived at 10yrs ago. I cut him off mid-sentence and told him that I knew the call was a scam because I’ve never taken a payday loan and for him to take me off his list and never call me again or else the police would be contacted. Below is the text I received.

This is the second time someone has attempted this scam on me in the same manner. They call and leave a long detailed voicemail about how they are “moving on in accordance with state law” clue #1- a valid debt collector would not leave such a long, detailed, threatening voicemail. They also called from a spoofed number that usually shares your same area code, clue #2-pretty sure it is illegal for a debt collector to use a spoofed number. Then when you call back, rather than asking you to verify your identity they read details to you, the last 4 of your social, old bank account numbers (mostly info they probably scored on the dark web) Then if you question them at all they become irate and unprofessional further identifying themselves as fraudulent. They hang up the phone, and then if you call back multiple times (which I do, because if they bother me I like to return that kindness) the number is no longer working. This scam called me Feb 2020 and identified themselves as Brooks and Wiseman. The last time was in 2016 and if I’m not mistaken I think they may have even used the same name. They usually go on to say you owe a debt (from many years back) and try to collect immediate payments, they say a judge issued a warrant etc.

Several calls were made about a serious matter. When I called they read my social security number and stated that I owed money from a debt in 2012. An account that I’ve never heard of or had and that is past the statute of limitations. Beware.

I received a voicemail from this company, they did not state their name until I called back, saying to call them back at the 800 number listed with my reference number. I called them back and they said I owed money from a loan from about 10 years ago with my old last name. I asked for proof to be mailed to me. I think I caught this as a scam, but I believe I was scammed a couple years ago along these same lines with a different company, and they did get my money. I am scared because they have my information, and I am lost as what to do now.

I received multiple calls stating that it was a "time sensitive matter" and I hesitated to call because I knew that I did not owe anything to anyone. The "agent" knew the last 4 of my social and stated that I had a pay day loan that was still owed from 2012. I instructed him that I had never had a pay day loan ever. He asked how would I like to handle the payment. I said I would not be paying for something that is fraudulent and began to get more information about said debt but he was resistant. I told him that I would be calling the police for the fraud that is taking place. The "agent" began to get irate and stated that he would write on my "file" that I refused to pay. I repeated that I would be calling the police for fraud and hung up the phone.
