Type of a scam Phishing
Phone call to my cell phone. Individual identified himself as a Boone County sheriffs deputy. He gave his name and credentials, badge number, he told me that I had not shown up for a grand jury appearance. He claimed I had gotten a jury duty notification in the mail. He advised that I was in contempt of court. He advised that I needed to work with him to get this cleared up. For the most part he sounded very official. He assured me that I was not in trouble but we just needed to get it cleared up. He was giving me options on ways to get it cleared up. I think one of them was going to be making some type of payment that would be refunded once I came to the sheriffs office or something like that but I did not get that far. At one point when I tried to get off the phone with him he told me that A sheriffs deputy was going to come to my house if I didn’t finish with what he needed over the phone. I believe he was leading me down the path to try to get me to give him a credit card number but we didn’t get that far. I told him I had to call him back and asked for a number he gave me a phone number and a extension number. He claimed this was the Boone County sheriffs department. I got off the phone and looked up the Boone County sheriffs department and called them directly with the number that I found and they told me that this was a scam. I called back the number that the collar gave me and it reached a voicemail that identified itself andAsked you to leave a message so a deputy could call you back. The voicemail did not sound anywhere near as convincing as the actual caller was.
