Type of a scam Home Improvement
I was approached in the super market parking lot because I had a small dent and some scratches on my car. Scammer said he could fix these and quoted a price of $250.00. He followed me home, did approximately 20 minutes work on car and covered his work with a white opaque wax saying it was on there to "set the sealer." He also told me I needed a repair on my bumper and this would be another $275.00. He told me the damage "was dangerous" but not to worry as I would get a $257.00 rebate for parts. As he said, I wiped the white substance off the next day and he did not do the work he said he would do but left scratches and a damaged panel where he attempted to fix the dent. He called saying he was going to finish his work but I needed to pay him $600.00 more so he could buy supplies (I had given him paint, sealer and dent filler which I had.) He said if I did this I would get a $600.00 rebate instead of the $257.00. I told him I wasn’t paying him another penny and to keep his rebate – I just wanted my auto fixed. He then got nasty and accused me of wanting him to work for free. The trigger appeared to be telling him I wouldn’t pay him any more money. I have attempted to make contact with him several times and even told him I was going to report him to various agencies. He replied: OK.
