Type of a scam Employment
Someone posing as a large, international medical tech company, called Getinge, contacted me through both text and email for a remote Data Entry / Administrative Assistant position. They held the interview with me over Skype messaging. No video or voice call was involved. They offered a very high rate of pay and then decided to hire me immediately, all within the same day. However, to start the work and to "set up my home office", they mentioned sending me a check to purchase the equipment needed.
I sent an email to the real company’s contacts page on their website to confirm that this was within their hiring process, and the next morning I got a reply from them saying it was NOT legitimate.
The only information that I mentioned to the scammer was my name, mailing address, and what bank I use (but not my account). They did however ask if I wanted to be paid via check or wire transfer, I chose check because I found the whole process very suspicious by that point.
My wife just went through an interview on Google Hangouts. Same thing as you’ve described above. What steps did you take to ensure your information was safe? They offered to send a check for purchase of software and office equipment. We did not provide any bank information.
