Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill
Company contacted me saying we had won a "Best of…" award. After looking into the type of program they were, I found there are multiple reports that this was fake. This was evident because they were asking for us to pay for the award.

Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
We received an email campaign announcing that local businesses have ‘won’ the 2016 Best of Waialua award for the surfing industry. We were then encouraged to pay $149 or $199 to claim the award and receive a personalized plaque. We typed in Haleiwa.awardconnections.org and the website looks identical to the one we were directed to.

Type of a scam Online Purchase
They contacted me through my business email claiming I had won an award for 2016 Best of Lake Wylie Awards for Pet Training. When you visit the site it asks you to "claim your award" where it wants $149.99 – $229.98 for the various plaques offered. There’s no such award in my area and even if there was I’d expect some contact before being named "the best".

Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
One of our executives received an email message from [email protected] which said our company had been selected for a Best of Awards for Healthcare. There was a link to a website which redirects to http://local.awardconnections.org If you search for that domain name on Google, you’ll see they have setup many different idential websites for major cities.
A similar scam was reported in the Washington / Idaho ScamPulse.com in 2015 indicating that you are asked to pay money to receive your award plaque. We did not follow the link in case it was also malware.
