Total money lost $600

Type of a scam Utility

I got a call from AT&T/Direct TV (they said they were AT&T) saying that they had a promo to help me save money on my bill. I have AT&T/Direct TV so of course I never thought it was a scam. They said the promo was that I would have to pay the next 4 months of my bill up-front and the remaining 8 months would be locked into a contract for the price of $60.00 per month. They told me that I would have to get a pre-paid card and call him back with the number so the money could be applied to my bill. I did that and I thought everything was fine. The next day, he called back and said that the card number was no good and I needed to get another card for the same amount and call him back AGAIN. I asked about the money I sent and he said he would return it to me but it would be in the form of a check that was being sent overnight via FEDEX but I had to send another pymt to make up for the 1st pymt. It sounded fishy so I hung up and found my AT&T bill and called them to speak to a supervisor. I explained the whole situation to them and they told me that they had another customer that called about the same thing but it was nothing they could do about it. The real messed up thing is that these people have the same hold music, same recorded AT&T voice, same options (press 1 for English, press 2 for Spanish, press 3 for billing etc.) and almost the same phone number so you wouldn’t think it was a scam especially if you have AT&T like I do.
