We received several phone calls on my husbands cell phone from 630-387-6177 as well as from other numbers-always the same woman. The woman kept calling & telling him he owed on a credit card & she was a debt collector. She had a very old address and the last 4 digits of his SS#. She asked for $800.00 to close out the account. She stated that the cc was opened in 2011 & last paid in 2012. After telling me it was a bank in another state the first time, she then told him it was for a HSBC credit card. The last time she stated it was for a Citibank card. My husband went to Citibank and they investigated. They found out that some scamming company/person must have pulled his public records from a prior divorce and got some of his information. The reason we believe that is what she did is because she had his birth date wrong and on the public records they made a mistake and had the same wrong birth date. Lucky for us I investigate any calls like this before paying anything. It was a total scam.
