Anonymous phone call that said they were from the IRS and that they wanted to talk to me about a debt I owed before they sent it to the courthouse for collections. They just gave me this phone number to call back 347-518-1287. This was all from a pretty bad pre recorded(robot voice if that makes sense) message.

My elderly mother is receiving repeated calls from male in Jamaica claiming she has won a sweepstakes prize for several million dollars and asking for $$. He is friendly to her and always calls her by name. Today when she wouldn’t give her credit card number over the phone, he instructed her to go to the store and get a paypal card and transfer $500 into the card. She obtained the card and we were able to intervene before she had given the card information out to the caller.

We received a threatening phone call "from an agent of the IRS" (via a pre-recorded taped message) to our home phone. We are individuals over 65. The message insisted that "IRS" had made 2 or more "Attempts to reach you", and now that this was the" third– "final call" to avoid fines and penalties on some unspecified error in our tax form. A number was given and we were instructed to call back to discuss this issue.Our phone’s call log listed "number unknown" at the time the call was received. I hug up on the call.
I understand other elders in the Bloomington area have received "live IRS calls" multiple times to their home phones, and this has been reported in the local press and radio. I hoe your agency can spread the warning that these harassing calls are targeting unaware folks to give their personal information over the phone.
