Type of a scam Debt Collections
I received numerous calls from a number with an Orlando Florida area code. On the call I answered, I was asked if I was my name. I asked who was calling and was told it was a representative from ARC. When I asked what this call was in reference to I was asked for my date of birth. I refused to provide this info to a caller that I did not know and asked where ARC was located. I was told Colorado. I asked why the call had come in on a Florida number and was told that ARC owns many many numbers and that this was one. At every request for information as to why this firm was calling, I was asked for my social security number or date of birth. I then requested a supervisor, but this did not alter the outcome. I was finally connected to a "manager" who also repeatedly refused to offer the possibility of a written request in the absence of me providing or confirming sensitive personal information including my date of birth and/or social security number. I honestly have no way to determine if this is a legitimate request or a scam. I had to research the company simply to determine that the name was specific to a collection agency. I have absolutely no assurance that the people I spoke to were actually part of this firm or if the firm itself was legitimate. No amount of requesting a written request resulted in any further offer of legitimate documentation of any reason to be contacting me. If these calls were not placed to perpetuate a fraud, the actions of those spoken to certainly suggested it.
