Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Adamnetworks posted a job for a virtual representative on mediabistro.com. Mediabistro.com is a very well-known and trusted portal for those in the media industry so there were no flags.

The campaign began as a job opportunity which included a google hangouts job interview. From there an email was received indicating that I got the job. They sent a slew of paperwork for me to sign with a note that an 1-9 and W2 was to follow. They requested a drivers license and a copy of my home utility bill, ostensibly to confirm that I reside where I said I did. Once that information was sent back, they sent me a check, written on a BofA account, in which I was to deposit so that I could personally purchase the equipment needed for the job(laptops and such.) That should have been the red flag.

The check was denied by my bank, thank goodness, and mediabistro.com has since sent out an email to everyone about the scam. It looks like had the check cleared bank and I bought the equipment "from their vendor" that once the check bounced, they would have the money and I would be out $1900.
