Type of a scam Employment
I was contacted by someone who is posing as Linda Kaufman on a administrative assistant/data entry clerk I applied for on Zip Recruiter. She explained the position in the email and asked if I was still interested. I said yes and she proceeded to ask for a good time for an online interview. The interview was conducted on RingCentral and lasted about 50-55 minutes. She asked legit interview questions such as my experience in data entry, how I work independently since the job is home based, and strengths and weaknesses. A couple of days went by and I was offered the job. They instructed me to send in interview documents to HR and copy her on them. I sent my birth certificate and proof of address. I then proceeded to fill out what I thought was a W4 form including my social security number and address, and electronically signed a document saying I was going to take the job. I didn’t see the red flags because the type of questions I was being asked, the job ad on Zip Recruiter, and the brief research I did on the company. After being “hired,” I completed a few pretraining tasks and was “rewarded” for doing so. She promised me $50 for doing them. Today, Dec 17th, 2019 I received a check in the mail for $4,650.30 via FedEx for start up equipment. This included an Apple Mac laptop and several software equipment. I tried to deposit the check through my mobile app but it was taking longer than normal. A couple hours later my bank called and informed me that the check was fake. This is when I realized I was being scammed. I ignored all the red flags because the compensation was so high. AbbVie is a very successful pharmaceutical company so of course they would pay their employees a lot. Because it’s an at home job I justified the 100% online interview. I hope this helps someone. Stay safe and question EVERYTHING. Especially when looking for employment.
