Type of a scam Phishing

Postal letter supposedly from Capital One informing me of possible unauthorized activity on my account that has been found as valid based on 2 bullet pointed reasons. What caught my attention was that the letter looked like a pre-formatted letter with places to put in dollar amounts that had been left blank. They did that intentionally so you would call the enclosed phone number to find out what was going on. Letter AND envelope look very legit. Letterhead, logo, letter format, case number….

Don’t ever call a phone number included on the initial contact. Always call the number on the back of your card. When you call the phone number used in this letter, you get a nice sounding lady that thanks you for choosing Capital One and asks for your name and account number….DING, DING, DING! Don’t ever give them your account number. Capital One would already know this information.
