Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes
I received a letter in the regular postal mail headed from "Publishers Clearing House" AND a check for $4,761.32. The letter states that "they have been trying to reach me to let me know I was the 2nd place winner of UNCLAIMED PRIZE MONEY and won $75,000." They said to "call MY claims agent BEFORE depositing the check." The check is suppose to pay for the taxes and processing fees I may incur. The "assigned agent" is Mr. Michael Reed at 1-855-535-7227. The check is in my name however, the companies name on it is "UNITED WIRELESS AND REPAIR INC. at 3221 Avent Ferry RD. Raleigh,NC. 27606-2720" NOT P.C.H.
After reading other complaints I learned that when you call the "Agent" he instructs you to deposit the check into your account then wire money to whoever for whatever. I luckily have a healthy skepticism and researched this prior to calling the number. I HAVE won sweepstakes in the past and was NEVER asked to do anything. Especially if the prize is of any value. They WILL send you an affidavit to confirm and also a notary form. THEY NEVER SEND $4,000+ checks!! Let alone ASK you to put up ANY money. What would be the purpose of "winning?"
Be careful of opportunists trying to cash in on others hardships. What a world!!
