Type of a scam Tech Support

While on my ipad shopping safari locked up & had a pop-up come up stating a virus had been detected that could cause personal info to be breached & stated to contact apple support & had the # 1-844-792-2897 listed to call. Called number & stated my issue to the man. He said they could fix the issue & it would be a one time payment of $299.99 that included 5 years of security & 1 year extended warranty on ipad. I was reluctant to pay but thought i was speaking with apple employee so arranged the payment. Both credit card & debit card needed approval from a representative of the company which should have told me to hang up right then. Finally had to give him a check # & account # for the payment. Once that cleared he asked for serial # of ipad & email address. He then told me a service tech would call me & help with issue. After a few minutes got a call from # 1-508-834-6647. Man had me do fee things to ipad & installed an app called iDefend Pro which fixed the issue. After some thought i called Apple back using another number wanting to cancel the protection plan & get a refund of my money much To my surprise they had no record of me contacting them with the issue above & when i gave them the customer ID# i was given by the other company thats when i found out it was a 3rd party & could be @ risk of being scammed. After hanging up with Apple rep i tried to google the CodeDefend Company & all i could find was that it was a scam that has gotten other people. I called the number that popped ip on my ipad but it would no longer work so i then called the # 1-888-508-8056 & told the man i talked to i wanted a refund of my money. They were not trying to refund me the money & said it would be a $70 one time service fee & that the remainder of the $299.99 may be deposited back in my account in 6-10 business days but no guarantee. When i stated that i know it was a scam the man hung up on me. I called my bank & did a stop payment on the check so they didnt get any money. I then called Apple who had me delete the app that was installed on my ipad. I have since changed my bank account number & credit card numbers & have joined Lifelock to protect my identity in case this so called company has gotten any of my personal information.
