I received a message from a distant church friend. He asked if I had gotten my grant yet. Since we are not that great of friends, I had no idea what he was talking about or why he would ask me that. When I asked him to provide an answer to a security question and it was ignored I knew it was a scam.

I got a Facebook Messenger text from an old friend that I had not heard from in a several months. It had their current FB picture on it and everything. The first red flag was that it said we were not Facebook friends, which we were. He gave me a Messenger link to the "agent" that he dealt with, which I thought was weird. The agent’sname was "Michelle" with an old guy’s picture. Things progressed and they said that he got $100,000 in grant money, which was another red flag (this friend is very wealthy!). Then they kept saying OK after everything. There was pressure to get the information to them right away. Then, my "friend" said to "just cooperate with the agent" which was odd. I foolishly gave them my information, not my ss#, but name, address, phone #, like an [censored]. I qualified!! Which gave me the right to claim my winnings. Winnings? Grants are not winnings. I suppose I am educating scammers with this information as well, but you DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR GRANTS OR WINNINGS OF ANY KIND!! That made me call my friend and see if he had been texting me on Messenger. He said no, he had not. He rarely uses it. Well, what I gave them was public knowledge and easily picked up online. I am wiser now.
