Type of a scam Tech Support
Scammer called a family member of mine claiming that my family member’s computer had malware and viruses on it. He said that they scanned my family member’s computer and "got rid" of the issue. Then offered my family member a 5 year security plan worth $500. My family member said he/she couldn’t afford that, so the scammer said he could offer it to he/she at $297.99
They asked my family member for all her information, (address, email, phone number) and that my family member pay them by physical check in the mail. They told my family member that they would send a FedEx driver to pick up the check the next day.
The address was in New York and after I looked it up, it was a home address. I called the scammer’s number back and recorded the conversation on my phone. These [censored] deserve to be found and put in jail.
