We toured a property in Ballston with "Steve", a short, dirty man who dresses like he just got done fixing the plumbing in a dive bar and got paid in beer. He says doesn’t need a credit check, he just wants to know where we work. Red flag.
The house was pretty beat up, and after the tour he pressured us hard to cut him a $3100 check and back date it for a few days in advance so we would have time to decide (and he assured us we could cancel it if we weren’t interested). Why would he be so desperate for money in a hot seller’s market like Ballston? Red flag.
I asked him to email us a copy of the lease. He "doesn’t do email". Asked him to fax it to us. Doesn’t fax. Major red flag.
We never even signed an agreement that grants him the right to lease the property. For all we know "Steve" is just a random guy. There’s too many suspicious things about this little guy, steer clear.
