Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill
Our company received a collection letter and invoice from Commercial Pool and Spa Supplies, Inc. (CPSS). The letter and invoice only had a PO Box and email address as contact information. This is the name of a business that we used to do business with until they were bought out by another company. I looked into our accounting system and found the valid phone number for CPSS and called it. I spoke to someone who worked for the new company that bought out CPSS. He said the invoice was not from his company and he was receiving an average of 10 calls per day from customers regarding fraudulent invoices from CPSS. The collection letter threatens to send the invoice (dated 07/27/16) to collections since it is over a year old. This is the first notice we have ever received about this invoice and we have no purchase order to back this up as a valid invoice. The products were similar to products we ordered from CPSS (pool lights), but the amounts were different.
