Type of a scam Tech Support
My computer froze and a message appeared saying: DO NOT TURN OFF COMPUTER. SOMEONE IS TRYING TO ACCESS YOUR COMPUTER! and to Call 1-855-859-1700. Which i stupidly did since everything was frozen. They pretended to look for malware on my computer. They use remote access to my computer and could see my computer number, personal email, address… The guy was very patient – that fooled me!!! He gave me his name (Michael),his title (Apple Tech Support SR. Mac Expert), his employee ID APL-4478 (BBB) and location (CA Los Angeles). Like a fool I trusted him until he requested $249 to install a firewall on my computer and remove foreign emails. He insisted on getting my MC/Visa number including the CVC. I said no and hung up. He called me 3 times after that but I hung up again.
