Type of a scam Government Grant
On the “Messenger” app on my phone, I received a message that I thought was from a friend (because of her picture), telling me about a government grant that she was able to benefit from financially. The message said that I might be eligible to apply for the grant because I’m a senior. She said the best part was that she didn’t have to pay back the money. The message indicated a number for Agent Nikki Haley. I called the number and received a text back asking for my demographics and income. I was told that I qualified and was given a reference and a ticket number. The message stated that in 24 hours I would receive a delivery fro UPS. I texted back that I changed my mind and after a couple more of their text messages, I skied them not to contact me further. The messsage insisted that I had nothing to worry about and was I sure that I didn’t want the grant. They were very insistent. I was able to call my friend. She told confirmed that the information did not come from her and that something similar had happened before where her name had been used in a scam.
