Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I received an invitation through Linked In supposedly from a person I know inviting me to be part of a paid secret shopper group and take surveys for his company. I signed up because I knew the guy, but was cautious due to all of the internet scams out there. I received an email a few days later telling me my application was accepted and that I would get my first assignment shortly. I then received a priority mail package with a $2900.42 check and a request to buy $2500 in ebay gift cards from any vendor that sold them and then reply to the online survey to complete the answers to the questions and the remaining $400 was to keep for my services. I also received a text message asking me to reply if I had received my first assignment and check and a text message the next day asking me when I would be able to complete the assignment. It seemed suspicious to me due to the address of the package, the name on the letter and all of the emails, etc. not matching up. Plus, just the idea of buying that large amount of gift cards and getting $400 for doing so, did not seem a professional way of doing things. So I did some searching online and found it was a scam.
