On 8/4/2019 I noticed an unauthorized purchase on my credit card with Amazon, purchasing a Prime Video. I Googled for Amazon customer service and the toll free number 866-256-4934 was returned. I called it and it was immediately answered, without the typical company greeting. That should be a warning sign since all companies would have started with a run-around greeting message. A person with heavily south Asian (he later admitted he’s from India) talked to me and requested access to my Amazon account and credit card number so he can give a refund. I was foolish enough to give him remote access to my computer where I later noticed he purchased a $75 Xbox game and $50 gift card. I called Amazon again the next day using a different number and clearly the process for Amazon to refund the original purchase was completely different, never asked for my account and personal information.
Afterward I had to put a freeze on my credit with all three credit reporting companies, and changed password on various accounts. Be aware of that phony support number.
