Type of a scam Online Purchase

I ordered a "free" trial sample ("just pay shipping") online and agreed to a second "free" trial sample of a similar product, but declined the 3rd product sample. When I received confirmation of my order, the order receipt indicated 3 separate order numbers (1 for each of three samples) even though I declined the 3rd one. When I called Customer Service (within 60 minutes of placing order) to ask about the 3rd sample, I asked about any automatic monthly renewal/subscription– I wouldn’t have known to ask about this, but my credit card company (who I spoke to immediately prior to calling Customer Service) warned me that this may be one of the companies that engages in this activity– I was told by Customer Service that I would need to call within 14 days ("today is Day 1") or I would automatically receive monthly charges/product. I asked to stop the automatic renewal and she indicated that I would need to call back (even though we were already speaking). At that point, I asked to cancel the entire transaction(s) and made very clear that I don’t want ANY product to be sent to me (trial sample or otherwise). She said that the shipping fees were non-refundable, but that doesn’t make sense because no product is supposed to be shipped. I also requested to speak with a manager, and was told she didn’t have one and "managers don’t take phone calls". She refused to provide me with her employee number, last name (first name Amber), or city/state of her office.
