Person claimed he worked for Florida Power & Light and threatened to shut my power off in 30 minutes if I didn’t make a payment. After informing him of my last two payments (dates, amounts, check #’s) I was told he would escalate my issue but I would still need to make a payment (which would be refunded if confirmed that I made payments). Payment would have to be made ONLY with a MoneyPak gift card for which I had to pay for in cash. Once purchased, I would have to provide him with the activation # (scratch off) on the MoneyPak card.

I Googled the number for customer support for *** *** and ***, wanting to close an account. This number came up. I called and got a tech support person from India. He asked me to download a file. When I did it I could see he had control of my computer and was going into open tabs looking for bank account information. I got off the phone and closed my computer. I checked the *** *** *** *** site for their customer support number, and it was a different number. I then Googled ***Â and it was connected to a site called ***

Individual stated that our power was going to be shut off in an hours time for non payment. Left the number 877-406-9616. I returned the call once online in my FPL account to ensure I was paid up to date. I call the number and a spanish speaking individual answered. I inquired where I was connected to and was informed the financial offices of FPL. I stated that my bill was paid. She requested my FPL account number and address. I proceed to give the account number, but not my address. She asked how much my payment of January had been. We then reviewed the past 3 months of payments I had made. She informed me that they did not have these payments recorded and I owed $476.20. She then stated that if it was an error on their behalf we would get 3 months of free power. However, I would need to pay the $476.20 which would be reimbursed once all was clear. I refused to pay as I owe nothing and she then stated that within a half an hour my power would be terminated. I tried to report to FPL however, getting to speak to a human is impossible. Thus I am trying to communicate so that this does not happen to anyone else. They sound legit and in fact give me my own address.

Caller claims to be FPL tech calling to notify our business of disconnection in 1 hour. Leaves phone number to call supposed FPL customer service, 800-731-8730. There is fake FPL answering service that connects you to customer service agent, they claim the bill is 2 months past and "red flagged" for disconnection. They ask if you want to make payment over the phone.

I was called at 1:56 today (March 15, 2018). She said her name was Nicole and that I was on a disconnect notice for non-payment. I argued with her that I did pay my bill. I did not give out any personal or financial information. She gave me this number to call to pay: 786-228-5054. I called FPL’s number from their website and was told that I did pay my bill and am not going to be disconnected and that this was probably a scam. I called the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to report this and they said it was probably a scam and they couldn’t do anything.

I was contacted on my cell phone according to the gentleman by an FPL agent. He informed me that I needed to make an urgent payment because they where sending a representative to disconnect my services if I didn’t make an urgent payment over the phone. He informed me that supposedly FPL sent out notifications stating that electronic payments and checks could would no longer be accepted only over the phone payments.
