Calling Phone number: 757-263-4907 (VA)

Caller Identified as: Agent of US Gov IRS

Caller had my home phone number, first and last name, and street/town/State address

Caller was a women with an accent: Indian or Pakistani. Spoke English well.

Caller stated I have an outstanding balance due from 2010.

Caller asked if I prepare tax returns myself or if I used a tax preparer. I answered, I cannot recall 2010.

Caller stated a letter was sent to me from IRS in 2011 re the outstanding balance and I have not responded it which is why the call is being made. The purpose of the call was to tell me the IRS was now escalating to obtain payment and a warrant for my arrest was to be issued. The warrant would be issued immediately if I hung up.

I assured called I did not receive a letter from the IRS.

Caller assured me a letter was sent (attempt to be convincing) and she stated my home address – which was correct.

I told the caller I would go to the local IRS office to deal with the claim.

Caller said I could do that, but hanging up from the call would trigger the warrant.

I asked what I could do in the call.

The caller stated she could attempt to resolve the issue with me in the call, or I could allow the warrant to be served.

I asked her how we could "resolve" the problem by phone.

The Caller stated the amount owed was $6,930.

AT THIS POINT I HUNG UP.

At my local IRS office, the real agent requested I submit the phishing incident to the IRS. I am also reporting it to this BBB.
