Type of a scam Tech Support
I responded to email about upcoming Computer Support renewal. (Did not see the bogus email address on sender email until later when printed out email). Upon asking to not renew the support because I had not used it, I was advised that I was due refund but need refund code to process. I did not have code so they stated that they needed to reinstall software to get code. They did and code appeared. Refund amount appeared of computer after some manipulation and showed $200.00. I was asked to confirm refund and entered 200.00. However the refund amount came back $20000. I was asked to check my bank account and it showed $20,000 credit. (I determined later the credit was actually transfer from my other bank account, not them.). In response to extreme distress on their end, I was told that they would not lose their jobs if I could return the funds before end of the day. I then proceeded to take steps to do that using gift cards before my accounts locked down and I terminated the process.
It appears that the software they installed gave them access to my computer and online banking. Police report filed and is underway
