Type of a scam Credit Cards

I found 2 charges from this site on my credit card bill. I went to the site and started a chat with a representative and asked them who the vendor was. He asked me for the 1st 6 and last 4 digits of my credit card and the dates of the charges. Then he came back with an account number and told me that he had cancelled it. I didn’t ask him to cancel it. I merely wanted to know who the vendor was. I asked again who the vendor was and he still wouldn’t tell me. He said they were only a billing service. I then called their phone number and got the same answer. I asked them how they could give me a membership number referenced from a credit card and not know who the vendor was. The rep said they didn’t have access to that information. I asked for a supervisor and got the same answer. I have no idea who the charge was from. It may have been a valid account but now it has been cancelled and the supervisor said they could not reinstate it.
