T-mobile

Type of a scam Phishing

Someone with a Denton, TX area code called me on my cell phone. I normally don’t answer calls I don’t recognize but this was a Denton area code (as is my cell phone even though I currently live in WI with a 414 area code)and I was mislead into thinking the call might be pertinent due to the familiar area code. The caller identified themselves as TMobile and tricked me into saying "yes" after they asked if they were speaking with "Karen". I grew suspicious when the person calling knew nothing about my TMobile case or a recent TMobile promotion I inquired about.

Total money lost $130

Type of a scam Counterfeit Product

I explicitly chose to transfer to T-mobile for their international plan. I was told by manager that I would receive free wi-fi calling, anywhere, incoming or outgoing, so long as I was connected to a wi-fi network. I said "Do you mean if I use skype?" He said, "No, you just need to have wi-fi calling turned on. Then be on a wi-fi network. Then just place the call like normal."

So I did this, and turned on wi-fi calling abroad, and got a bill for $130 in international charges. Why? Because I was charged for calls made while on a wi-fi network…because you only actually get free wi-fi calling for calls you make outside of the US to the US. And not incoming calls. So, I was explicitly lied to by a T-mobile representative, to transfer my plan.

This happened at the following store:

Brand Blvd & Wilson Ave (9595)

134 N Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA 91203

Happy to send the individual’s name that helped me/lied to me about T-mobile’s offering if that’s helpful. The product was purposefully misrepresented.
