Type of a scam Tech Support

After turning on my desktop today I was alerted to a pop up screen and a voice insisting that I do not turn off my computer, that my security information would be compromised and to call 888-203-8381. So like a fool (for not checking first) I called the number and after this Tech Support for Windows ran a few tests it showed how I had some tiny bankers and alureon hacks and that my IP address had been compromised. In order to fix, I needed a Level 9 technician and the closest she found was in Birmingham where I would have to take all my devises and leave for 4-5 days. B’ham is a good hour and half from here so I couldn’t do that. My other alternative (and here I should have really been suspicious) was an online support group called *** . She connected me to them. The charge was $400 and they supposedly fixed my problem with compromised IP address and installed some Ad blockers and a Cleaner. Sounded good to go. But now friends are telling me I was scammed and my computer is not safe to do online transactions. I don’t know what to do. But I wanted to let you know in case anyone else gets their computer overtaken by this probably bogus alert.
