Total money lost $2,250
Type of a scam Tech Support
I first contacted this company about two years ago when my desktop computer was having issues. They said that my computer had virus issues and for $250 they could resolve those issues and install virus protection which I did not have. The computer was fine for about 10 months, then it crashed again. I called the tech support number. They logged into my computer and told me it had been hacked and that I needed better protection. They put some Walmart ad on the screen showing a price of around $2,000 and said I could buy the software protection from them instead of Walmart and that it would be a lifetime protection as opposed to two years with Walmart. Unfortunately, I believed them and purchased this supposed protection from them for around $2,000. They did provide some tech support here and there, but about a month ago, the computer completely crashed so I called them. Then they told me I needed internet protection, showed me the same Walmart ad, and tried to sell me another $2,000 supposed protection software. I hung up on them. They were logged in at the time and so they proceeded to completely shut down the computer. I had to buy a new one. I described what had happened to the Geek Squad at Best Buy, and they confirmed that I had most likely been scammed.

I looked up HP to get help with my printer. Theses are the people I got. they told me I had to write a check right now. They told me the company name which was not HP when I asked why they said they were the printer help side of the company. They phished around in my computer for about 2 hours. Claiming they were fixing it. They also told me I had to go offline all of my other devices. I got suspicious and went on to mobile data to look up their company where I found scam reports. I had to change all of my accounts and cut the communication. I also had to uninstall things they had installed on my computer so they wouldn’t have any more access.
