Type of a scam Employment
I applied for an Admistrative Assistant poistion in Denver, CO and received an email in a few days that Penty Groups was interested in hiring me and to submit my contact info and availability. The job description in the email also stated this was a personal assistant position and I was to be doing tasks on a weekly basis for $500/week. I got an email back congratulating me on my new job and to look for a certified check in the mail with my first assignment and to cash to check, use my $500 salary, and for the remainder – purchase toys and send them to an orphange TBD. 12/27, received a check for $5346.00 (drawn from a legitimate business who fell victim as well) with instructions to deposit in my account ASAP and use funds for upcoming tasks. I also received a text from 254-335-0920 asking if I received the check and tracking # and to deposit it right away. In the meantime, I found many scams online with similar description, and I replied back to [email protected] stating that this whole job process sounds like a scam and not accepting this job. I got 2 replies back quickly stating this was a legitimate job and to not turn a good thing down, and you never know where a fantastic job will come from. At this point, I am holding the check, not depositing it; contacted the FBI on how to report this potential scam, and submitting this form to FTC.
