Type of a scam Employment
I was contacted through facebook by a company supposedly called Online Business Consultants regarding potential employment. The owner of the business, Ryan, (no last name was given) told me I would be paid by having links essentially sponsored in my name, and I would receive money when people clicked them. Ryan estimated I would make between $3-$6,000 in 90 days working 10-20 hours per week by doing this. He asked me to send him pictures of the front and back of my driver’s license, the front and back of my debit card, and the front and back of a voided check. I am almost 80 years old and not familar with how the internet works, and I did not understand that the offer they were giving me didn’t really make any sense. However, my son arrived to help me send the pictures and let me know that this didn’t seem legitimate. I had already given "Online Business Consultants" $37.00 through paypal to "activate my account." I was able to cancel that payment before it went through, but still had to pay a $25.00 cancellation fee. They wanted a "deposit" of $250 to start up my employment. Luckily my son let me know about the red flags regarding this business, and I was able to cancel the payment before it went through. They wanted me to send them a "good faith" payment of $5,000 as a deposit for my employment which I luckily didn’t do. I may have given them either my full social security number, or just the last four digits, I can’t remember.
