Arthur – Apr 23, 2020

Victim Location 44149

Type of a scam Utility

I was contacted by phone from a man named Mark Davis (877-387-4721, ext 4000) who claimed he is a supervisor with Ohio Edison. He claimed that they have been sending me notices the last 4 months that they needed to replace my electric meter because it was old, unsafe, and could catch on fire. He said this was being done for the whole 44149 area. He also claimed I was delinquent on 4 months of bills, totaling $258.13, but would give me the month of May for free and be my advocate in court, since the federal government was involved. He claims that because I had ignored the notices I now would have to pay huge penalties. I would have to pay $1600, but Mr. Davis would try to have that waived. He also gave me his personal number: 330-913-3597 and his badge number 302-A. He said he would intercept the technician who was en route which would give me time to get the MoneyPak. For reasons I do not remember now, he told me I would need to obtain a MoneyPak for $498.00. It may have been the money needed to pay for the new meter. I did have a hard time understanding him because of his accent. When I went to Sheetz to get the MoneyPak, the employees and manager at Sheetz refused to give me the MoneyPak and told me it was a scam. I then went by the Illuminating Co maintenance office on Pearl Rd and spoke with 2 workers there who all told me it was a scam and to call the police. I did not call the police. I was pretty shaken up by the call.
