Type of a scam Tech Support

A few years ago I got a new laptop as a gift. a few days after I got it, I received a phone call from a company calling themselves ‘Quantum technologies’ they wanted to help me install a computer virus protection system. They were very convincing, so me being the gullible person I was then, decided to go along with it. I used a credit card to pay for it (I believe it was around $400) he gave me a bunch of information and phone numbers to call back anytime I needed help. About a year later they called back wanting to renew. I hadn’t had any issues and thought my computer was running great. I allowed them to renew and again used the credit card (another charge of around $400). After the renewal my computer started lagging and was super slow. I didn’t think much of it because I didn’t use it regularly and figured it just needed updates. I tried and tried and tried to run updates but it never worked.( I never did try to call this company to see if they could fix the issue. ) shortly after Christmas of this year I got a phone call from them saying that they were going out of business and wanted to refund me money for what I hadent used yet. I told them I was busy and hung up. They called me again a few days later saying their system crashed because of a security breach so they wanted to refund me money they owed. I decided to play along to see just how far they’d go. He told me I would be getting a refund of $230 (because that apparently is what I hadent used yet?) They got into my computer took me to several illegitimate websites trying to get me to put in my debit card info. I continued to tell him he wasn’t getting my bank info. Every time I told him, he would get upset. I finally caved and took him to an account that was no longer in use. He then ASKED ME what they owed me, i was feeling greedy so i told him $300. He ‘transfers’ 300 to my account and then said ‘oh no ma’am I accidentally added a 0 so now you have 3000 in your account. You will need to refund us 2500 you can keep the extra money for your troubles’ I then freaked out saying that he was nothing but a scammer and no good just taking people’s hard earned money. This continued for several minutes until I saw typing on my computer that said something along the lines of ‘ ma’am calm down I understand and want to tell you something, but I can only type because my supervisor will hear what we are saying. If I talk to you’ he then wrote ‘you are right. This is a scam. You have opened my eyes and made me realize this is not a good way to earn money. Please don’t ever accept calls claiming to be tech support if you did not initiate it.’ I told him thanks for letting me know and apologized to him for being so upset. I then asked to be put on a ‘do not call because she is crazy list ‘ he said he would try and hung up. PEOPLE I just got ANOTHER phone call from them claiming that they had a security breach and wanted to refund me my money. I instantly freaked. He was trying to tell me to go to Walmart and get a steam card (?) So they can refund me my $370. I have zero, ZERO, patience left for these dummies. Needless to say they hung up on me. I hope that got a point across at least and that they don’t call again. Because if they do they will be getting another ear full!
