Type of a scam Rental
Consumer logged onto the VRBO website https://www.vrbo.com/ to find a vacation rental property for February, March, and April. Consumer rents a property here yearly for the past eight years. He usually goes through Coldwell Bank but decided to look for vacation rentals by owners since we have many. This proved to be a bad decision. He is one of three individuals who has been scammed for the exact same property 1781 Cabana Dr. The scammer sent an email to the consumer letting him know that the home was available for the dates consumer was interesting in. Consumer emailed back requesting pictures, and more information on the home. The scammer sent back the contract and the banking information for the consumer to fill out. Consumer filled out the contract and wired the money to the scammer. The wire did not go through as the routing number was not correct. The Consumer called the Scammer at 928-351-6290 to let him know there was a problem with the account information at which point the scammer then gave a different number and the wire transfer was completed. The scammer told the consumer that he would meet him at the house on the day consumer would arrive and would give him the keys, do a walk through and when consumer stay was over would give him back the 700 dollar deposit in cash. The rental rate was $ 2100 + $700 dollar deposit.
