Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I’m a teacher and I received an email about a secret shopping job from a person named Christopher Lee. He had an email address that came from my school district, so I thought he was a coworker in another school. I followed the link he sent me and I entered basic personal info into an online application (so, so stupid, looking back now) site. A few days later, a woman named Carole Kirchner texted me from a 305 number and said that she would be sending me a packet with info about the secret shopping job via mail. I replied to her texts with a couple questions about the job, but she didn’t respond. Two weeks later, today, Carole messaged and said that I would receive a packet today with all the info I needed to get started with my first assignment. She told me to text her as soon as I received the packet. I did receive a large USPS envelope with a one page photocopy of instructions and a cashier’s check for $998.00. The instructions say to cash the check, keep some of the money, and use the rest to do a secret shop of Walmart’s money transfer service. The photocopy has no real company name, but it says SECRETSHOPPERS. at the top of the paper.
